Potty Training Twins
If you have twins or children of a similar age you may feel that potty training them together may seem like a time-saver, but it doesn’t always work out that way, as your children may approach readiness at different times.
A key point to remember is that not all children are ready at the same time [...]
How Young Can You Start Potty Training Your Baby?
OK… there is a difference between potty training, and Elimination Communication.
EC is not potty training… it’s parent training… you learn your babies cues for needing to eliminate (pee or poop) and run w/ them to the potty - you don’t force your 6 month old to hold it - you just learn how to catch it in time to not let it come out into a diaper… most people use this method w/ cloth diapers, so if they miss a pee or poop, then they just change a diaper - no biggie, but if you can cut your diapering down to half or less, why not??
That being said… you cannot potty train a baby…. they don’t have the mental or physical capacity to “hold it”… this other thing actually works for many.

I just spoke to my co-worker about the EC training thing and she told me that her friend had adopted a 9 month old from Russia and that the child was already potty trained at 9 months! They used some sort of bean pod like device that was in the crib with the babies and the babies propped onto it when they had to go to the bathroom. It’s amazing..I want my baby to stay a baby forever!
ReplyEvery child is different. I have 3 and the youngest my kids got potty drained was 2 years old. If the chid is showing intrest then go ahead and start. Also from what I have read children under 2 have a hard time holding it or even reconizing when they have to go. Make it like a game. But know that every child is not the same and different methods work for different kids.
ReplyHere’s some tips for sharing. Hope it helps.
ReplyThe average age a toddler will potty train is 2½. If you use cloth diapers you can expect your toddler to potty train 5 months to 1 year earlier. Girls tend to potty train faster than boys.
When they are born according to what is on msn today. Yeah right though, I would not be up for that. But I am pretty sure you can start when you feel your child is ready. I know people that potty trained at the age of 2, however, my son turns 3 today and has no interest in it.
ReplyA general time (and very general since all kids are different) is 2 for girls, 3 for boys. You can’t always wait until they show an interest because some never do. My mother has a 4 year old little boy in her daycare who does not care one little bit if he stays dry or clean. His parents waited way too long to start potty training and now he doesn’t care if he’s in diapers or not.
ReplyIf you feel like training yourself to run to the bathroom with your baby every time you “think” he wants to go, then check into Elimination Communication. I don’t see the difference in doing that vs the 30 seconds it takes to change a diaper. In fact, it seems rediculous but to each his own I suppose…
Elimination Communication isn’t about training the parent anymore than feeding your baby is training you to feed them - it is responding to your baby, and anyone interested in the closer bond can do it.
I’ve done EC twice, I don’t run the the loo with my baby, I offer him the potty at timely moments and at his requests. We use few diapers most days (actually we use training pants instead) and have little washing. Pooey diapers are uncommon. Pee breaks take mere moments then their pants are back on!
It’s great fun reaalizing how smart babies really are, and that they don’t like to be wearing their waste.
Elimination Communication is a cooperative, teamwork approach to helping your baby stay dry and clean in the now, rather than only cleaning up after them and hoping they aren’t diaper trained and difficult to potty train later - the potty is always familiar to them.
