Potty Training Twins
If you have twins or children of a similar age you may feel that potty training them together may seem like a time-saver, but it doesn’t always work out that way, as your children may approach readiness at different times.
A key point to remember is that not all children are ready at the same time [...]
What Is The Recommended Age To Start A Boy Potty Training?
My baby turn a year old on Aug 29th. He’s not quite walking solo yet, almost there though. Maybe a couple more weeks. Anyways, my mom bought him a potty chair for his birthday. I don’t know anything about potty training a boy. (Really don’t know anything about training a girl either.) I just wanted to know if some of you mothers could give me pointers on ages recommended for starting, and tips on how to train. I’m clueless.

We started with my daughter (also Aug 29 :-} ) at about 2, where we would sit her on her potty seat, but she soon fussed and protested and hated seeing the toilet. At about 2.5 she finally came around and would potty with assistance and some pleading from mommy. By 3 she was going on her own.
ReplyMy son was more curious and actually excited to go potty by the time he was a little more than 2. Now he’s 3 and still he prefers a diaper. We take him potty and he goes, but then afterward he asks for a diaper instead of underwear. It’s bizarre I know.
The best thing is to be patient. If they cry then don’t force it, just try again in a week or month. Some of these parents are on a pride trip about potty training, but really, it has nothing to do with their intelligence.
Boys are harder than girls. I got him a potty chair at one, and he has not really used it. The dr. told me it would take longer the earlier I start training, and the best time for a boy is 2 1/2 to 3 years. When I say he hasn’t really used it, I mean that he will go and sit on the chair, and say pee pee and poop, but he won’t actually use it. There were a couple of times that I had him stripped down before his bath and he sat on it an peed, but over all he has not used it.
ReplyI have two little girls. One is almost 4 and the other will be 2 in December. My oldest is potty trained and was before she was 2. I am currently potty training the youngest. Personally I waited until they both showed signs for potty training. Things like pulling on there diaper, wanting to know what you were doing in the bathroom. After them showing signs I decided to start slowly. Putting them on the potty, if they went I would do what we called the “pee pee dance”. If they didnt I would still praise them. It takes time and every child is different.
ReplyWell, I may get loads of thumbs down for this as my son was 3 and a bit before he was potty trained.
ReplyWe had a potty around the house from when he was a year old and he would occasionally use it but on Christmas eve just gone he took his nappy off and went and has not had a nappy on since. He has never had an accident (wee), he has been dry overnight since then too.
He had 4 or 5 poos in his pants before he really got the hang of pooing in the loo and he occasionally does what we call ‘poopy pumps’ (he goes a tiny bit in his pants because he tries to hold on just that little bit too long).
I know lots of people who have ‘tried’ to potty train their children but it takes forever and the childs confidence goes to pot. They have lots of accidents and it’s a horrible experience for all.
I’m glad I left our son til he did it himself as there was no stress involved at all and it was very quick and easy. I will do it again with our daughter.
My son turned 2 in March. I started potty training in June it was awful at first, you cant spank them for going in their pants because it will scare them and then they’ll never go. We bought a potty chair, potty seat (to put on the toilet), and a stool. One day I threw some cheerios in the toilet and told him to pee on them. He can go potty all by himself now!! He even uses his seat to poop on which is so great and he LOVES big boy underwear. And some kids wont go till the are ready.
ReplyWalking is a good age
As soon as they start walking take them to the bathroom with you. EVERY TIME you go take them. Lead by example. They will eventually catch on and want to be just like momma. I don’t know if daddy is present but if he is then let him be the example (since their anatomy is the same). Our first two boys were potty trained by the time they were 1.5 using this method.
ReplyAll babies are different..My almost 18 month old isn’t even ready yet…He is starting to get curious when I go to the potty and stares at me..but I think in the next couple months I might get him a potty seat and let him sit on it a few times a day in hopes that he might go…But I am interested in reading the responses to your question…
Replythe trick is recognizing when THEY are ready. You cannot force it. Look for the signs like what was said above.
ReplyMy son was peeing on the potty around 2 1/2 and it only took a week or so. Pooping was a HUGE issue though. He was 4 when HE finally decided it was time. He knew how, just wouldn’t do it.
GOOD LUCK! hahahaha
