Potty Training Boys??

How will i know when to start potty training my son?
My son is 19 months old. He can take his diaper off by himself. He points to his diaper if i ask him if he’s pooped.
He doesn’t seem interested in the potty, more in using real toilet.
what are your experiences of potty training boys?

boys are notoriously difficult to potty train they just don’t seem to know when they need to pee. If he is interested in the toilet then bypass the potty and sit him on the toilet after meals getting him used to using it, he probably won’t pee but it is just practice. When he finally pees on it then praise him sooooo much hug him kiss him and tell him how clever he is. He will think hey this is good and do his best to do it again. The secret is patience and don’t expect too much he is still very young i never tried potty training before 2 as it is easier after this time. when you are both ready and he is reguarly peeing on the toilet then put him in big boy pants and explain he needs to do all his wee’s on the toilet and expect loads and loads of accidents but he will get there.
    Good luck

  3. I can’t see the point of using a potty. Unless your toilet is out of reach don’t bother as you’ll only have to train him twice. If you think he’s got control then just go for it but be prepared for lots of accidents.

  5. The average age that girls are potty trained is 2 1/2 years and for boys it is 3 1/2. My kids potty trained quickly because I did not start them too early. I did not want to push them so I researched and found a safe way for them to use the toilet on their own. http://www.amazon.com/Elite-Child-Corpor...
I just set this stool at the toilet and told my kids when they wanted to try it to let me know. They immediately climbed up on the toilet to see what it was like. They were totally stable so they had the confidence from that point on to try. The sides make all the difference. Well worth it.
    Hope this helps.

  6. I found it really hard to train my little boy. I didn’t even start training him until he was about 2 because he just didn’t seem ready. It took a long time and a lot of patience. He’s nearly 3 now and still has accidents sometimes. He never sat on his potty once, he really hated it so i sat him on the toilet right from the start of training him.

  8. If he wants to use the toilet, then let him. It is a lot easier on you if he did anyway. Go to the store and buy a toilet ring that can be set up for a boy and a special stool for him. 19 months is a bit young so I wouldn’t push him into it, I would just have it available for when he is ready. When he is ready to try sitting you may want to throw a few cheerios in the toilet to “aim at”.

  9. well i have 2 kids one of each and id say girls are easier to potty train. Health visitor also said to me some boys dont master it until they are 2 or 3 yrs old. Thats good he wants to use toilet my 3 yr old son prefers potty but will use toilet if has too. Also my boy was 2 when started using potty and they do have wee accidents for a while but it happens. he should have it all mastered by time he is 3 yrs old.

I potty trained my son sitting down first with a potty seat on the big toilet. Being sure to show him how to point his little guy down into the toilet. Once he was tall enough, my husband helped him learn to stand and aim into the toilet. Be prepared for him to miss, and for him to “forget” to aim it downwards sometimes. If he’s interested, get him a child seat to put on the big toilet and give it a try. It certainly couldn’t hurt anything. :)
