Its probably best for you to teach him to sit on the potty first to use it the when he gets good at that he can practice with the cereal I am going to get my son the little urinal when he finally understands the potty. Also boys seem harder to train than girls so get ready. I think they are more stubborn.
ReplyI hear ya.
ReplyWhen I first told my oldest son that he should stand up to go, he didn’t believe me! Never underestimate the power of imitation!
I would say that getting him started with a potty seat, just to get down the mechanics of going, is a good idea. Then, once he’s mastered that and understands what the urge to go feels like, then tackle the issue of standing up. (That’s where the cheerios or paper targets in the toilet will be great.)
There is no magic formula to training boys, though. I have two, and they had entirely different issues. I would say, just be patient and supportive. It will take time. Mine trained between 3 and 3 1/2 years old.
Good luck!
I was by myself when my son started to potty train. Put a few cheerios in the toilet and tell him to aim for them. I know it sounds crazy but it works. Also I had to start him out sitting down and then told him okay boys stand up to pee and he tried it and really liked it. It will take time and patience.
Replyput Cheerios in the potty and have him try and aim at the Cheerios (sounds silly but really works and makes potty fun for boys) or blue food coloring in the potty and if you son pees in it, it will turn green…useful tips that make potty fun
Replyrubber pants. They worked for me. That or have him hang around a grandfather so that he sees that and wants to be like him
Replyreward him with a treat or sticker if he does it. That helps to motivate them.
