Does Anyone Have Any Advice On Potty Training Twin Boys Age 3?

They want to sit on the potty but they never actually pee. As soon as i get them off the potty they pee all over the place.

  1. A penny in the toilet??? How about a cherrio!!!
It is hard but you have to put them on the toilet every hour at least and hope that by chance you get them to pee once…then you cheer and clap and make a ridiculously big deal about it with praise!!! The positive attention should make them want to try it more for a while, but then you might have to try bribing if that wears off. I have heard of using marshmellows or choc chips as a reward. (only one and only if they go in the toilet) Personally I would try for stickers or hand stamps…and only resort the the candy if needed.
Are they using diapers or pull ups? some people switch to worse working diapers because if they work too good kids won’t care about continuing to go in them.
Pull ups can be confusing for kids (underwear they can pee in???mixes them up) and can actually set them back a while.
I don’t think I would try to make it a contest between the two of them. I think playing them against each other at such an early age is only asking for trouble in later years. But they might do it naturally….if one sees the other getting the praise…then they might give it a try.
Books always recommend letting them watch you or better yet daddy going potty. The more they see how to do it the better.
When they start doing good let them pick out special underwear and talk about all the people they know that wear underwear…let them wear them longer and longer and when the have accidents try not to show any frustration even if it’s in the middle of a clothing rack in a store (my case:) act as calm as you can…”accidents happen” and potty training is one of the first things kids take pride in!
    Good Luck!

  4. I don’t no if you have boys or girls for boys we, make it a game try putting cheerios, rubber duck, washable paint in toilet and let him shot them. But not all at once see what interest them, ask them. It’s lots of fun. Let them pick for you, finish then ask for help let them go. Let them pick each time they have to go. If they are girls they will probably like the paint add red and blue ask them to make purple, ect.

  5. Good luck, boys are hard to potty train. My first son was a dream compared to my youngest son. With my oldest I gave him 1 m&m for pee pee and 2 if he pooped in the potty. He had the hardest time with the poop thing. He would hold it all day until I would put a diaper on him at night. He never had an accident in his training underwear. (the underwear that has the thicker area in the croch area) My youngest son didn’t care if he peed in his underwear all day. It really depends on the age, maturity and if they are really ready for the potty. We did get a toilet seat that is padded and it installs on the house toilet. I think he had the fear of falling in. Bribe the heck out of them and put them on there every 30 to 45 minutes.

  6. I have raised 3 boys and all were potty trained in their 2nd year. I found that having them see a man stand up and pee was very helpful. Once they saw that they understood what to do. With my youngest he was only about 1 1/2 years old and his 3 1/2 year old brother showed him how to use the potty. He used it immediately afterward for his very first time. Good luck.
Of note, one of my sisters potty trained her kids by showing them one of those old dolls that would “drink” and “pee” on the potty. She said that once they saw the doll “go” that they wanted to try too and it worked for them. She trained 4 kids that way.

  8. wow ! 3 years…maybe should have started earlier. And they are boys right? i’m pretty sure they pee standing up. try throwing a penny into the toliet and have them target shoot. and hit the penny. another thing is stay away from those pull ups ….its a waste of time. let them be in big boy underware, and pee in them ..they wont like it and want to shoot the penny.

  9. I have twin boys and they weren’t trained until 3 either. I had listened to the doctor and others who told me to just wait and they would do it when they were ready. I ended up having to put my foot down.
What I did was I told a little white lie and said the store wasn’t selling diapers in their size anymore and that the bag we had was all we had left. As we used them I reminded them “ok 3 diapers left then big boy underwear!” I think they felt they had no choice because “the store wasn’t selling them anymore”
Once they ran out we went to underwear and the first day they had one accident after another. The second day I took them like every hour and when they had an accident I made them change it themselves. Day three was accident free and every day after that as well including at night. I think they just needed that little push.
My next son was trained a week after he turned 2 and my youngest by 2 1/2.
