How Do I Get My 2 Year Old Little Girl Interested In Potty Training? My Boys Were At Least Interested At This?

I have 3 kids. Two boys 7 and 4. One girl who’s 2. Everyone said girls are easier to potty train. But she’s not even interested. Why?

My daughter is very smart, but potty training was a nightmare! The key to training her is consistency. I would suggest buying a book about going to the potty - there are many to chose from. Read to her and then start the process. Perhaps her favorite toy or something she loves to do with mommy would be a great prize to reward her with ONLY when she uses the potty. She will strive to earn that prize. Bad comparison perhaps, but think about how people give their pets a treat when they potty outside. It is the same principle.
Do not try pull-ups. My daughter wore them forever and would change a wet one on her own. It is a matter of convenience for the kids to be able to use the bathroom and not stop whatever activity they are involved in at the moment.
I actually had the Easter Bunny take away the pullups and replace with big girl panties. That way we had a breaking point and a way to move on from the “diaper” era! Perhaps you could do the same with whatever character you choose. Take your daughter to Wal-Mart and let her choose big girl panties with her favorite character. Make a huge deal out of getting rid of diapers and wearing “big girl panties.” Then, take her to the potty every 45 minutes - 1 hour.
Once you quit the diapers, whatever you do, don’t go back. Stick with it, have patience, and expect a few messes! In the end, your daughter will realize that going to the potty is something she can be in charge of and will love the independence that it brings. Best of luck!

  2. My hubby’s parents just sat him on the toilet with a tv and waited it out..lol. It sounds funny in retrospect, but in my family it was all about competition. My mom got lucky because when she started to train me my brothers would get jealous and steal my potty.. so we all got trained at the same time…lol. Good luck! *smiles*

  3. Just get a little potty and every time you go to the bathroom, sit her on the potty while you sit on yours. Talk to her about peeing and pooping. Tell her, “mommy is pooping, can you poop to?” Make sure to use these words often when changing her diapers.
If you are uncomfortable with your child being in the bathroom with you, then do not use this method, since she will pick up on your tension and think something is wrong.
I started Maya this way at 12 months (not taking off her clothes, just letting her sit while I sat until she asked to take down her diaper and pants) and there was never any pressure, no tears and no stress. It was easy as pie.

  4. She is not interested because she’s not her brothers. Stop comparing your children to one another, they’re not from a cookie cutter, they are not clones. They are individual children and they will grow and mature at their own rate. She’s not ready to potty train plain and simple.

  5. Try to make it fun. I got my daughter interested by singing the pull ups jingle and telling her she’s a big girl now.
